Final Piece - Genre - Teen

My group concists of callum emma and myself. During our past few lessons in school we had all decided to go home and reaserch various different teen movies and teen dramas, simply to see the sort of topics and issues that were brought up in these shows. For exapmle we all looked at movies such as Kidulthood and Adulthood and we also then looked at the channel 4 dramas Skins and Misfits. We found all of these very usefull but i found that the most useful of all were Kidulthood and Skins. I believe that these two were the most usefull to what we would be doing because of the certain camera shots and movements used. However i had also recently been watching ''This Is England 86'' and i thaught that the opening for the First Episode was extremely clever in the way that it used the freeze shots to captivate each charicter at a shot which best showed their personality.

because of the in depth reaserch which each member of the group carried out we decided that instead of following the trend and trying to produce a product that overall may not look how we had expected or wanted, we would go for a simpler option where we could use origional techniques and our individual touch on things to make the film good but not hard for ourselves. People in our class are doing movies such as horror and thriller but as these movies usually cost Millions of pounds or dollars we did not  think that we would have the props or the materials we would need to make our opening sequence look beleavable.

This is why we all decided to studdy something we were passionate about and create an opening sequence for a teen movie.  We figured that with all of the acting we would be able to ask friends and co members of the group to take part in it so their would be minamul disruptions. with the movie being about teens we may aslo be able to film some of our shots in the school and 6thform areas. This would make filming allot easyer as last time we had a lot of problems with filming. We could only film outseide of school and with work commitments and other subject homework it became hard to fit everything in. We also had trouble with booking and recieveing cameras so what we have deceided to do for our final piece coursework may work out well to our advantage.

Teen films and teenagers are often percieved as menice's , trouble makers , thugs or gangsters. People of the older generations often fear young people and all because of what they read or see in news papers and on the television. However not all childern and teenagers or young adults are percieved in this way. But with shows such as skins and Misfits people get the impression that young people are bad news. However the teen genre is aimed at teenagers for teenagers. The main issues in their current lives are things such as -
- Social status
- First Love
- Rebellion
- Emotions
- Parental Conflict
- Sexual changes and decissions
- Drug and alcohol use

All of the above are often a part of most teenagers live's , weather this is a mild case or a serious problem it effects all teenagers. Most films of a teen genre are often set in a school enviroment. An example of this would be the teenagers in Hollyoaks. Their are often scenes of a sexual nature shown or crude humour used. Their are often upper and under-dog roles within the teen comunity and these are often ranked on the experiences that one has encountered.

We want to show all of the emotion and problems in these young peoples lives in the first shots of their faces and body presence. After watching sevral episodes of Skins and misfits and uncountable teen movies i have worked up plans of the different routs we could go down with the opening sequences. For example we could use the skins idea and simply show all of the charicters in their own enviroments then freeze the shots on their faces and body movements to highlight them at a certain moment that shows how their feeling and what emotions they are trying to express at this moment in time. This could be a good idea and underneath we could have their name age and current problems - this would be a way of introducing the charicter to the audience and showing them what the movie will potentioally be about.

We have not yet disgussed where our movie opening will be filmed or who will star in it but im sure that as soon as we are back at 6thform everything will roll into place and we can begin to thouraghly plan our filming.

Reaserch

for this final project me emma and callum are working together. we have decided to do reaserch on teen movies and programes. on things such as skins and misfits, not so much for their scifi genre but for the camera work and the general scripting used.

we have also deccided to watch movies such as train spotting and adulthood and kidulthood. we chose these films as they relate to not only teen culture but to the genra and script lines of the other programes that we will watch.

we are thinking of doing someting along the lines of the opening to this is england 86 for our opening film credits.
